If staying healthy were simple, then there probably wouldn’t be so many blogs, books and articles telling us how to do it! Instead of being helpful, the plethora of information available can be quite overwhelming.
Believe it or not, though, the steps to a healthier you really are pretty simple. They can be broken down into three general categories.
- Be active. There is no way around it – exercise is a must for a healthier you. If the idea of joining a gym or even starting an exercise program on your own leaves you needing to lie down and rest, then don’t think of it as exercise. Change your perspective. Get active. Work in the yard. Take a walk to enjoy nature. The important thing is to make sure that you are moving every day. And keep in mind that you don’t have to do everything at once. Short active periods throughout the day can also be beneficial.
- Eat right. Well-balanced meals that include lots of fruits and vegetables are a necessity. Getting the nutrients you need does not have to be boring or tasteless. Try new foods. Trade recipes with friends. You can even grow some of your own food (which will help you get active!).
- Care for yourself. From getting enough sleep to spending time with friends, you are responsible for taking care of yourself. If you want your brain to be at the top of its game, then you can’t try to get by with just a few hours of sleep each night. You may even need to take an afternoon nap now and then. And socializing with friends is really good for you, so don’t say you just don’t have time.
You deserve to be the healthiest you possible. Having a little trouble getting started? Ask for help. Family and friends can help get you motivated to take these simple steps. Even better – ask them to join you. They deserve to be as healthy as possible too.
